Students' Choice Selection

Students have their have their own competition at the Movies that Matter Festival: Students' Choice.

During the festive Award Ceremony on Wednesday March 23rd, a jury composed of students from the Hague University of Applied Sciences rewarded The Chosen Ones by David Pablos with the Students’ Choice Award (worth € 1,500).
The jury members selected the ‘highly original, relevant and authentic’ film, dealing with the trafficking of women in corruption-ridden Mexico, because of its capacity to stir both fascination and reflection among students.

The jury, consisting of eight members, chose three of what they thought were the best films from a selection of this year's festivalfilms. For each of these films there was a free screening during the festival for students and members of CJP.

The nominated films were:

3 1/2 Minutes 10 Bullets: Electrifying documentary thriller about Afro-American teenager Jordan Davis who is shot dead after a discussion about his loud music.

Nice People: Feel-good documentary about the first Somali ‘Bandy’ (ice hockey) team in the world, consisting of Somali immigrants who live in the ‘friendly’ Swedish town of Börlange. While having no ice skating experience whatsoever, the boys wish to compete in the Bandy world championships in Siberia.

The Chosen Ones:  Sofia, 14 years old, is in love with Ulises. Because of him, in spite of him, she is forced into a prostitution ring in Mexico. To set her free, Ulises will have to find another girl to replace her...

The jury members were: Elena Sirbu, Adriana Munteanu, Christopher Callanan, Sonja Agata Biscan, Aylin Karaarslan, Henry Strong, Jasmine Coombs en Olga Akhrarova.
