Courtroom drama based on a true story. Two ambitious lawyers go head to head in the trial against Milorad Krstić, who is accused of war crimes, at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. The testimony of witness K109 seems to be decisive for the indictment of Krstić, but turns out to be partially flawed.
Defender Mikhail Finn managed to refute all accusations against his client, Milorad Krstić, who stands trial on accusations of war crimes committed during the Bosnian war. Convinced of Krstić’ guilt, public prosecutor Catherine Lagrange calls a young witness who makes an incriminating statement against him. He claims to be an orphan and to have been a member of the paramilitary group Gvardia, which was led by the accused.
Finn goes to the Balkan in order to verify the testimony. There, he finds out that the boy’s father is still alive. This not only undermines the credibility of the witness, but has far-reaching consequences for the boy and his family. It gradually becomes clear that the search for truth and that for justice do not always go together.
