Synopsis

During the ousting of Egyptian president Morsi, a police truck filled with detained protesters tries to force its way through the violent protests. Will the detainees find a way to bridge their diverging political and religious backgrounds, and have a shot at survival?

In 2013, the tensions in Egypt often rose high. Members of the Muslim Brotherhood got into fights with the police, and in turn, the police clashed with opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood. With this pandemonium as a backdrop, Clash shows a random day from these turbulent times. Egyptian director Mohamed Diab (CAIRO 678) chooses a perspective that limits itself to the cramped space of a police truck in which detainees of several groups are locked up. This microcosm provides a stark view of the complex divisions and the highly volatile situation in the country.
