Festival year: 2010

In the drily humorous police film 'Police, Adjective' young director Corneliu Porumboiu (known from the highly acclaimed film '12:08 East of Bucharest') shows how a routine job turns into a matter of conscience. Police officer Christi refuses to arrest young Viktor for offering hashish to two of his school mates. Under the Romanian law Viktor risks eight years’ imprisonment. Christi, who expects the law to be changed, considers this a far too severe punishment for such a minor offence. He fears that Viktor’s life will be ruined if he is put behind bars all that time, and prefers to keep an eye on Viktor to get his hands on the true dealer. This brings him into conflict with his superior Nelu, who has an entirely different definition of the word 'conscience'.
