Inspiring portrait of Marion Choete, a cheerful therapist whowith her family initiated a major project for AIDS orphans inSouth Africa. A story of hope, misery, and high spirits in theface of it all.By the year 2010, 100 million people in Sub-Saharan Africawill be infected with HIV/AIDS, and 26 million children willbe orphaned as a result. In South Africa alone, six millionadults and children are infected, but the government hasoften turned a blind eye to the pandemic. Marion, a trainedtherapist, her husband and three daughters invested theirsavings in an orphanage in Magaliesburg, South Africanineteen years ago. They run a home for 250 orphans anddo everything to ensure that children from the surroundingvillages attend school. Many children have lost theirfamilies and endured traumatic experiences such as forcedprostitution. The myth that you can cure AIDS by having sexwith a virgin continues to prevail. Intriguingly, the stories ofthe children are interwoven with that of orphaned elephants.Angels in the Dust is produced by Participant Production, theproduction companies of Jeff Skoll’s. The company togetherwith George Clooney, among other filmers worked on filmssuch as Syriana and The Kiterunner.
