Director Maya Zinhstein and Nirit Peled speak about intersecting worlds of sports, religious fanaticism, and Israeli politics.
Both Maya Zinhstein and Nirit Peled portrayed discrimination in the world of soccer. Maya Zinshtein embedded herself in the Beitar football club, which became a controversy in 2012 when the signing of two Muslim players brought down the racist wrath of the team’s long-time fans. Nirit Peled directed the film Superjews focusing on the question why supporters of AJAX proudly call themselves Superjews. In this Q&A we discuss the making of the films and the role of racism and hate speech in soccer.
