Former correspondent and head of NRC-magazine Laura Starink interviews Russian documentary filmmaker Andrei Nekrasov.

In the second half of 2008, Russia and Georgia clashed in South Ossetia. Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said that his intervention was intended to protect the Russians living in the Georgian province. Andrej Nekrasov and Olga Konskaya compare their own film footage to the official version released by Russian, which was adopted by the Western media.

Russian documentary filmmaker Andrei Nekrasov studied at the State Institute for Theater and Film in St Petersburg, going on to earn a Master's in literary and philosophy in Paris and a Master's in film in Bristol. His documentary Disbelief (2004) won him the best documentary award at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. This film, about a terrorist attack in Moscow, is banned in Russia.

The filmmaker and journalist received the Oxfam Novib/PEN Award last January. This annual award is presented to exceptional writers and journalists who have been persecuted for their critical work.
