Debate about the search for truth regarding the civil war in Guatemala, with documentary filmmakers Pamela Yates, Peter Kinoy and Paco de Onís, and Marlies Stappers, initiator of Impunity Watch. The panel will be chaired by journalist Harm Botje.
Pamela Yates is an American documentary filmmaker. She is a co-founder of Skylight Pictures (with Peter Kinoy), a company dedicated to creating films and digital media tools that advance awareness of human rights and the quest for justice by implementing multi-year outreach campaigns designed to engage, educate and activate social change.
Marlies Stappers is the initiator of Impunity Watch and the Netherlands Platform against Impunity in Guatemala. She lived in Guatemala between 1995 and 2001, where her work included counselling Guatemalan refugees returning from Mexico. She also worked as a researched for the Guatemalan Historical Truth Commission.
Harm Ede Botje (1965) has been writing for Vrij Nederland since 1995. He is a general editor with a special focus on foreign correspondence and development cooperation. Before he started working at Vrij Nederland, he worked as an editor for the VPRO radio show Argos, a reporter for the Radio 1 news, and a freelancer for VARA radio.
