Bahram Sadeghi in discussion with anthropologist Irma Specht and Liberian theatre producer Bright Richards about fear, forgiveness, amnesty and justice in postwar Liberia.


 Anthropologist Irma Specht has been the director of Transition International since 2003. This organisation works for the United Nations and specialises in change processes in traumatised regions. Irma Specht has lived in Africa for years, helping child soldiers transition towards a life within society that approaches normality as closely as possible.


Theatre producer and actor Bright Richards left his homeland of Liberia in 1993, fleeing the ravages of civil war. In 2011, Richards the first Compassion Award for his play As I left my Father’s House, on the consequences of war. The award is an initiative of the Mozeshuis in Amsterdam, the Mennonites, the Remonstrant Brotherhood, Liberal Protestants and the Vrijzinnige Geloofsgemeenschap NPB (Liberal Faith Community). Richards has been staging his play in churches, synagogues and mosques since 2009. The texts in the piece are inspired by the words and actions of the prophets in the three Abrahamic religions.


Bahram Sadeghi is an Iranian-Dutch freelance director and presenter. He also writes articles for various national newspapers and organises debates. Sadeghi started working for the VPRO Dutch broadcasting company in 1998, as an editor on the show Waskracht, later making his own programmes for the VPRO. Starting in 2002, he joined forces with Gideon Levy to form the ‘Levy&Sadeghi’ reporting duo. In their most recent piece, entitled ‘De Lobbyisten’ (The Lobbyists), they show a different side of the American presidential elections.
