Hella van der Wijst interviews Bart Stapert
The interview will be about the legal errors and human rights violations in the trial of Deborah Peagler.
Bart Stapert was chairman of Amnesty International Netherlands from 2005 to 2008. He is currently a practising lawyer and partner at the Böhler Advocaten law firm. He also chairs the Stichting Rechtshulp Terdoodveroordeelden (Legal Aid Foundation for Prisoners Condemned to Death) and acts as a consultant to the Reprieve NL foundation. He specialises in cases involving Dutch citizens held in prisons in other countries, cases involving American law (e.g. extradition), and complex criminal and human rights cases (including prisoners sentenced to death). Bart Stapert publishes and lectures on human rights and American law.
Hella van der Wijst presents the KRO show De Wandeling, in which she takes famous and less well-known Dutch people on a walk, during which she interviews them. She has been making the ‘docu-soap’ Het gevoel van de Vierdaagse since 2005 for the same broadcasting company. Hella has also had a column in the KRO Magazine TV guide since 2003. Her first book was released in May 2006, published by Archipel as Hella’s Voetsporen (Hella’s Footsteps). In 2009, she made the TV show De Wereld op zijn Kop, accompanying a naturalised ‘new Dutch’ man on his journey back to the homeland he once fled.
