Festive World Premiere followed by a discussion afterwards, with director Yariv Mozer and protagonists Louie en Abdu. Host is NOS anchorman Rik van de Westelaken.
The documentary tells the story of a young, gay Palestinian man who flees the threat of honour killing by his family and moves to the greater freedom offered by Tel Aviv, but is then persecuted and deported by the Israeli authorities because he doesn’t have the right papers. The story is all too true to life, and not only for Louie. Louie, who is portrayed in the film, and Abdu, who is also in the film, are attending the festival as honoured guests.
Yariv Mozer is a director and producer, and the former head of the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival. He directed the documentary My First War and created the TV feature ‘Another Way, Noa & Mira Awad on the way to Eurovision 2009’. Mozer also owns Mozer Films Ltd, the production company that created such films as The Heart of Jenin and The House on Tabenkin St.
Rik van de Westelaken started his career as a journalist at AT5, the local Amsterdam TV channel. He then transferred to the NOS broadcasting company, where he currently works as a reporter and presenter on the NOS Journaal national news bulletins. Van de Westelaken also lectures occasionally at the School of Journalism in Utrecht.
