The Syrian Ala’a Basatneh is a 21 year old student pursuing her Bachelor Degree in political sciences at the Loyola University of Chicago. Next to her academic activities, she is also a human rights and political activist, playing an important role in the Syrian Revolution. From behind her computer, she has been helping coordinating the revolution through diverse forms of social media. And with 1,200 Facebook friends and 2,000 followers on Twitter, she has built up an impressive network. Read more about Ala'a Basatneh.
Minka Nijhuis is an award-winning journalist for the Dutch daily Trouw, Vrij Nederland and for several radio stations. She has reported on conflicts in Cambodia, Burma, Kosovo, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Nicole le Fever was a correspondent in the Middle East for the NOS Journal from 2006 to 2011. She was based in Amman, Jordan. On the basis of stories of the people, she always tried to show in her reportings that there is more in this region except for conflicts and religious fanaticism.
