Two philosophers, René Foqué and Pieter Pekelharing will have a discussion about the question if human rights, once central in the vocabulary of dissidents and opposition groups, still are a force of change. Or did human rights become an instrument of the established order?
Bart Stapert, lawyer and en former president of Amnesty International Netherlands, is the moderator.
René Foqué studied law and philosophy at KU Leuven and French language and literature at the University of Lille. He is Professor of Law Philosophy and Law Theory in Leuven and at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is also the director of the Centre for Fundamental Research in Law, and teaches at the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratization in Venice.
Pieter Pekelharing teaches social and political philosophy at the University of Amsterdam.
