Cuban dissident dies on hunger strike

The Cuban dissident Orlando Zapata died in hospital yesterday, 85 days after he went on a hunger strike. Zapata was one of 75 political prisoners convicted in March 2003 for political activities against the communist regime. 

 

The Movies that Matter Festival screens the documentary Women in White. In this film we follow the wives, daughters and sisters of the 75 political prisoners who where arrested in Cuba in March 2003. The women, known as Las Damas de Blanco (Women in White), walk to silently through the streets of Havana te protest. Women is White is part of the main programme A Matter of ACT.
