The national film tour of Movies that Matter presents special previews of Illégal, one of the festival films. Illégal won the Prix SCAD Quinzaine in Cannes and was one of the ten audience favourites at the IFFR 2011. In March, the film will be screened in fourteen film theatres all over the country.
The Russian Tania, a Belgian resident, returns home after a long day, when she finds an expulsion order in her mailbox. Determined to stay in Belgium together with her son Ivan, she mutilates her fingers with a smoothing iron, making it impossible to verify her identity. On Ivan's thirteenth birthday, however, Tania is arrested and brought to a detention centre. She is completely powerless in the face of the Russian mafia threatening Ivan and the perspective of being deported.
Director Olivier Masset-Depasse will attend the screenings in Leiden and Rotterdam.
