The Movies that Matter Festival takes off

March 25, 2010

Tonight the Movies that Matter Festival takes off. It will open with feature film No One Knows About Persian Cats followed by an interview with Iranian Kurd director Bahman Ghobadi. In the film, two young Iranian pop musicians from Teheran grow weary of censorship and the government's ban on Western music.

The Alderwoman of Culture for the city of The Hague, Marieke Bolle, will give a short welcome speech. Author and activist Somaly Mam from Cambodia will open the festival. She is the guest of honour for the A Matter of ACT programme. The event will be hosted by Menno Bentvelt (VARA).
