The Human Rights Film Network, of which Movies that Matter is a founding member, joins the Nyrabia family and the international community calling for the immediate release of our friend and colleague Orwa Nyrabia. Syrian filmmaker, producer and filmfestival director Orwa Nyrabia was arrested in Damascus International Airport while traveling to Cairo at noon on Thursday, August 23rd, 2012. Nyrabia’s family still has no information about the reasons for his detention or his whereabouts. Earlier this week, filmmaker Martin Scorsese pronounced his support for Nyrabia in a statement re-posted by Film Forum, the Sundance Film Festival's Facebook page, and many others. "The international film community must remain vigilant, and shine a light on every injustice perpetrated against our fellow artists," Scorsese said. "We need to maintain pressure to ensure the immediate release of Orwa Nyrabia." Read more on the HRFN website.
