Director '5 Broken Cameras' detained at US airport
Emad Burnat, the Palestinian filmmaker who co-directed the award-winning documentary 5 Broken Cameras, and his family were yesterday detained at Los Angeles International Airport. Burnat's 5 Broken Cameras has been nominated for the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary. Producing his invitation for the Oscar ceremonies was not good enough for the immigration officers. The US does not recognize the Palestinian state, making it problematic for Palestinians to enter the country.
Thanks to filmmaker Michael Moore's efforts, Burnat and his family were released after 90 minutes.
