Sunila Abeysekera, Sri Lankan Human Rights Activist, Dies at 61

Sunila Abeysekera, a prominent human rights advocate from Sri Lanka died of cancer on Monday in Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital. She was 61. Sunila worked and lived in The Netherlands until recently and was a guest at the Movies that Matter Festival 2012. Sunila worked as executive director of INFORM, a human rights documentation center in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and won the UN Human Rights Prize in 1998. She also wrote articles for various magazines and worked as a film critic. Read more.
