Last Saturday, February 1st, a group of masked violent persons interrupted the beginning of the discussion taking place at the Queer Festival Merlinka at Art Cinema Kriterion in Sarajevo. They directly physically assaulted three persons, inflicting minor physical injuries, among them Predrag Azdejkovic, director of Merlinka festival from Belgrade. Moreover, the administrators of the Facebook page “Lets Stop the Parade of Faggots on May the First 2014“, were calling people to attack the festival, targeting specific persons because of their sexual orientation
Although it was agreed with the Police that police officers need to be present at the premises during different events of the Festival, there were no police officers present when the attack happened. The Sarajevo Open Centre, organiser of the festival, calls to action to stop hate crimes and incitement to hate against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
