The Word & Image Museum of El Salvador organises 20 free film forums in various cities and villages in El Salvador, at schools, universities, theatres, cultural centres and public squares. The films screened are about the violent past of the country, a history that is largely unknown among Salvadorian youth. These film forums are especially targeted at students, as a contribution to building society’s collective memory.
The museum considers such film forums “essential in a postwar society that is building democracy and citizens' participation, connecting the past with the present, and turning memory into transformative action.” About 4,000 participants are expected at these film forums that will be taking place between August 2014 and May 2015.
Movies that Matter also supported the first edition of this project in 2013. http://www.museo.com.sv
