Freedom Film Fest is Malaysia’s premiere human rights film festival. It uses film as a tool for human rights activism, advocating for human rights and good governance. It is organised by Pusat KOMAS, a Malaysian human rights organisation. Before the festival, there will be 20 community screenings in remote villages in Selangor State, with films on human rights, especially those topics that are relevant to Malaysia and the larger South East Asia region.
The main festival takes place from 6 to 13 September 2014, with the programme including 20 films and a forum on video activism in different parts of Kuala Lumpur. Many international filmmakers will be invited. After the festival, screenings take place in other Malaysian cities. In total, about 3,000 visitors are expected.
