One of the projects of the Sattya Media Arts Collective is ‘Bato Ko Cinema’, meaning ‘Street Cinema’ in Nepali. Over the course of a 10-month period starting in September 2014, 30 open-air film screenings are organised in public spaces in five Nepali cities: Kathmandu, Banepa, Bhaktapur, Pokhara and Birgunj. The 11 short and feature length documentary films that will be screened all focus on labour rights, a theme that is highly relevant to many in Nepal. To create awareness about the issues and offer the audience a chance to engage, each screening will be followed by an open community dialogue. Sattya will work with local partners to do community outreach and event promotion. Between 2,500 and 6,000 visitors are expected.
