the screen as memory; South Africa and apartheid
The son of two lawyers in Johannesburg, William Kentridge was exposed from his early years to images of the harsh social and political realities of South Africa, particularly Johannesburg at the time of the Apartheid.
South-African human rights lawyer Albie Sachs throws light on this context by showing fragments from Johannesburg, 2nd Greatest City after Paris (William Kentridge) and the documentary Soft Vengeance: Albie Sachs and the New South Africa (Abby Ginzberg).
EYE, Thursday June 25th, 7.15 PM.
