Katja Schuurman interviewt regisseur Patrick Forbes over dilemma's die zijn film oproept.
Patrick Forbes is one of Britain’s leading documentary film makers, with a particular commitment to quality of image and depth of analysis. He has directed the The Real Cracker, Battle Of The Robots, BAFTA-winning National Trust, English Heritage, and Grierson-winner Russian Godfathers. He executive produced Wine and the Lost World of Tyntesfield.
He began his career as a researcher on the ground-breaking investigative series Secret Society, where he was arrested and briefly held for alleged violations of the Official Secrets Act. He then worked as a producer in current affairs for two years, making the first independent investigations for Panorama before joining OFTV .
More recently Patrick provided us with a unique behind the scenes insight into the workings of Britain’s police force in the BAFTA and Grierson Award-winning series The Force for Channel 4. In 2011 he documented the post-quake rebuild of Haiti’s capital in From Haiti’s Ashes and the intriguing Wikileaks affair: Wikileaks: Secrets and Lies.
Katja Römer-Schuurman (Utrecht, 1975) is an actress, singer and television presenter. Alongside a successful career on Dutch television, she starred in many feature films such as No Trains No Planes, Oesters van Nam Kee and box-office hit Costa! She received very good reviews for her role in Interview by Theo van Gogh, in which she played opposite Pierre Bokma.
Katja Schuurman’s Return to Sender Foundation supports local economies and enhances living conditions in the poorest parts of the world by selling special regional products in the Netherlands. December 2012 saw the premiere of Guilty Movie, the first production of Barnfilms. Katja created this production company with, among others, her husband Thijs Römer, in order to “tell important stories without commercial pressure”.
