Latin American Film Festival 2010

From 6 till 14 May, the 6th edition of the Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) takes place in Utrecht. The LAFF introduces and presents every year the work of (new) filmmakers from Latin America. The festival offers a combination of last year's best Latin American films and an extended in-depth programme that focusses on the cultural and social developments of the continent. Movies that Matter presents as part of the LAFF the documentary Dreaming Nicaragua in the national film and debate programme.
'Deliver us from Evil'


Bij het renoveren van hun nieuwe huis krijgen Johannes en Pernille hulp van de Bosnische immigrant Alain, die getekend is door de Balkanoorlog. Wanneer Johannes’ broer Lars een dodelijk ongeluk veroorzaakt en Alain hier de schuld van geeft, verandert het vredige provinciedorpje langzaam maar zeker in een slagveld. Deliver us from Evil is vanaf 6 mei in de bioscoop te zien.
'The Time that Remains'

The Time that Remains is een deels autobiografische film, die in vier episodes het leven van een familie vertelt, van 1948 tot nu. Het verhaal is gebaseerd op schriftjes van de vader van de regisseur, die in 1948 een verzetsstrijder was, en brieven van zijn moeder die ze stuurde naar familieleden die het land hadden moeten verlaten. Door een mix van herinneringen vertelt de film het verhaal van de Palestijnen die in hun geboorteland zijn blijven wonen en die men 'Israëlische-Arabieren' is gaan noemen. Vanaf 6 mei in de bioscoop.
