Festival film at VPRO's Import

Wednesday 5 May at 23.40hrs, VPRO's Import will broadcast the documentary Defamation, one of the films of the Movies that Matter Festival, that took place from 25 till 31 March in The Hague. In Defamation Joris Ivens Award-winner Yoav Shamir goes on a personal search into the meaning of anti-Semitism in the contemporary western world. Despite the serious subject of his film, Shamir knows how to keep the tone light. From a position of almost childlike innocence, he questions: What exactly is anti-Semitism? How prevalent is it still? Is the Holocaust being misused to justify Israeli action in the conflict with Palestine?
'Return to Hansala' in cinemas

Return to Hansala begins with several bodies washing up on the Spanish shore, near the coastal town of Algeciras. One of them is the young brother of Leila, a refugee living in the town. She had encouraged him to risk the boat crossing to Spain, against their family's wishes. Leila decides to go on the hazardous trip to Leila's mountain village of Hansala in the Moroccan countryside. Leila's most fundamental beliefs are challenged, as she must face her family, and their grief, anger and love. Return to Hansala will be in the cinemas from the 29th of April.
