Addis Ababa Human Rights Film Circulation

Movies that Matter offers modest monetary assistance to initiate human rights film festivals and to help circulate and exhibit human rights films in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. One of the supported projects is the Addis Ababa Human Rights Film Circulation in Ethiopia. Ten films with the theme ‘Reclaiming the Earth’ are selected. Three films are translated into Amharic. The screenings take place at five universities and twelve schools throughout the country. The project aims to reach 5.000 people, mainly students. Namibia - Lunchbox Cinema

Movies that Matter offers modest monetary assistance to initiate human rights film festivals and to help circulate and exhibit human rights films in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. One of the supported projects takes place in Namibia.From June till September 2010, the Legal Assistance Centre in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, will organise film screenings with a focus on children rights for students, teachers and community actors in the education sector. At all screenings, lunch will be provided. Besides Windhoek, the film will travel to education colleges in Rundu and Katima-Mulilo. www.lac.org.na More supported projects 
Two new 'movies that matter'

Thursday the 29th of July two movies that matter premiere: Five Minutes of Heaven and Silent Voice. The film Five Minutes of Heaven takes place in Northern Ireland, Februari 1975. Seventeen year-old UVF member Alistair Little kills the catholic Jimmy Griffin in his house in Lurgan in front of his younger brother Joe Griffin. Alistair is imprisoned for twelve years. Thirty-three years later Alistair and Joe meet... In Silent Voices three persons come across each other in a French prison: the Algerian mother whose son is killed, a sixteen year-old girl who is in love with an arrested rebel and the confused Stéphane. The tension mounts.
