Two new 'movies that matter'

Thursday the 29th of July two movies that matter premiere: Five Minutes of Heaven and Silent Voice. The film Five Minutes of Heaven takes place in Northern Ireland, Februari 1975. Seventeen year-old UVF member Alistair Little kills the catholic Jimmy Griffin in his house in Lurgan in front of his younger brother Joe Griffin. Alistair is imprisoned for twelve years. Thirty-three years later Alistair and Joe meet... In Silent Voices three persons come across each other in a French prison: the Algerian mother whose son is killed, a sixteen year-old girl who is in love with an arrested rebel and the confused Stéphane. The tension mounts.
'Burma VJ' on Holland Doc TV

Thursday the 29th of July, the documentary Burma VJ will be screened on Holland Doc TV, channel Nederland 2 at 23.05hrs. Burma VJ has been screened at the Movies that Matter Festival 2009 and was awarded with the Golden Butterfly for Best Documentary of the A Matter of ACT programme and the MovieSquad All Rights Award. In Burma VJ we follow anonymous Burmese video journalists reporting the protests of Buddhist monks against the military dictatorship in Burma, thereby risking their own lives. Movies that Matter offers teaching materials for this documentary.
'White Material' in cinemas

Somewhere in Africa, a war-stricken area. Maria Vial is the owner of a coffee plantation, that has been family property for generations. When Arfican rebels attack the country, Maria's ex husband Andre advices her to return to Europe with her son. Maria refuses to leave the plantation before the end of harvest. She hopes the mayor of the neighbouring town will protect her. White Material will be in cinemas from the 22nd of July.

Police, Adjective, winner of the FIPRESCI Award and the Un Certain Regard Jury Award at the Filmfestival in Cannes 2009, was screened at the Movies that Matter Festival 2010 and is out in cinemas now.
