'Kindness' on television

Those who were not able to watch Kindness at the Movies that Matter Festival in March, can see it on the Boeddhistische Omroep at channel Nederland 2, Sunday the 2nd of May at 12.00hrs. In Kindness we follow the Tibetan Tsering Jampa. When she was four years old, Chinese soldiers entered her home and cruelly disturbed her peaceful existence, forcing the family to flee from Tibet to India. Now, several decades later, Jampa, who has been living in the Netherlands for 23 years, is director of International Campaign for Tibet-Europe. The film will be repeated Saturday 8 May at 9.20 hrs.
Movies that Matter jumps onto train of freedom


Following the Movies that Matter Festival in the Hague (25 - 31 March), Movies that Matter stages an attractive programme of the best shorts dealing with freedom. These films will be screened every Wednesday between 31 March en 5 May from 2 to 10.30 p.m. in the theatre of the ‘Train of Freedom' of the National 4 and 5 May Committee. www.stilstaanbijvrijheid.nl

'Saved by YouTube' in The Hague and Rotterdam

In April Saved by YouTube will tour the country as part of the national film programme, a cooperation of Movies that Matter and Upload Cinema. A special programme on activism on the Internet. For several months Internet users could send in their favourite films, leading to hundreds of entries being submitted. An editorial team ultimately selected the best, most inspiring and most remarkable film and video extracts on the web to compile an exciting programme. Sunday 25 April at 15.00hrs in The Hague and Rotterdam. Cinema Upload founders Dagan Cohen and Barbara de Wijn will be present in Rotterdam.

Africaday 2010

Saturday 24 April, The Hague will be dominated by Africa and development cooperation. Africa, politics and culture and more than 50 workshops. With amongst others Lovemore Matombo (Zimbabwean trade union leader), George Weah (African football player of the century), Frank Heemskerk, Tom de Man (Heineken), Abdelkader Benali, Bert Koenders and Renske de Greef. Themes as thirty years of Zimbabwean independence, MVO, politics and football, WRR report, elections, sustainable tourism, journalism and a lot of attention for art and literature.

Filmisreal: Festival for New Israeli Cinema

From 21 till 25 April the third edition of Filmisreal takes place in cinema Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam. The festival screens the most recent films, documentaries and shorts from Israel. It focusses on three themes: 'The Other Israel' enhances films from and about the Palestinean and Arabic Israeli's, 'Army Life' looks at the military reality of Israel and 'Stories from the Edge' contains stories about the life of immigrants. Film screenings for release Iranian filmmaker

The Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi is kept in prison by the Iranian authorities without an official charge. With screenings of his films Thursday 15 April, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, EYE Film Instituut Nederland, Theater Lantaren/Venster en Filmhuis Den Haag join the international plea for his release. The Circle will be screened from 17.00hrs in Filmhuis Den Haag and from 17.15hrs in EYE Film Instituut Nederland, Amsterdam. Offside will be screened at 21.00hrs in Lantaren/Venster, Rotterdam. Free of charge.
Festival film at VPRO's Import

Wednesday 14 April at 23.40 hrs, VPRO's Import will broadcast the documentary Google Baby, one of the films of the Movies that Matter Festival 2010, that took place from 25 till 31 March in The Hague. In this film we follow the Israeli national Doron who starts a ‘cost-saving’ business for people who cannot have children. He orders egg-cells online and personally brings the fertilized cells to India, where dozens of Indian surrogate mothers take on the pregnancy part. An eye-opening and sometimes shocking documentary about this modern form of baby traffic.
