Mariachi Los Mezcales

The traditional Mexican music of Mariachi Los Mezcales is rich and diverse in styles and has countless expressions through which finds its connection with people. From the typical trio huasteco, the huapangueros, bandas norteñas, trios romanticos, until the well known Mariachi, are part of the wide artistic expression of Mexican culture. Mariachi Los Mezcales played on Thursday night 20 March during the opening.

Trio C tot de Derde

The Dutch music group Trio C tot de Derde consists of the three musicians Carel den Hertog (violin), Coos Lettink (accordeon) and Caspar Terra (clarinet). The music they play is inspired by klezmer, music from the Balkans and gypsy-music. They create their own unique sound, performing traditional melodies in a particular and often unexpected way. Since they enjoy improvisation so much, no musical piece ever sounds twice the same. The band performed at the Camera Justitia Night on Friday 21 March.


The Syrian musician and exile Gharib released the protest song 'Antom Aein' (Don't hide your face from us) in response to the ongoing terror of El Assad and his regime which has set Syria on fire. Protest singer Gharib had to flee from Syria fifteen years ago during the regime of the father of the current El Assad because his position due to his critical attitude became dangerously unbearable. After several arrests Gharib managed to get to the Netherlands and live there in exile; always torn between the land of his forefathers and his life in the Dutch society. Gharib  performed at the A Matter of ACT Night on Saturday March 22 before the start of #chicagoGirl - The Social Network Takes on a Dictator


TenTemPiés is an international collective of musicians based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Their music is a powerful and exciting blend of flavours, mixing Latin Rock with Reggae and Ska with an Amsterdam twist: Damsko Mestizo! Formed during the summer of 2008, TenTemPiés has by now performed its energetic and inspiring live shows at an impressive number of venues. TenTemPiés performed on Saturday 22 March during the moves that matter party.

Sandór Mester

Classical guitar player Sándor Mester's repertoir consists of Portuguese and Brazilien classical music as well as transcriptions of FADO music from famour Fado composer Alain Oulman, Brazilian composer Heitor-Villa Lobos, Fado guitar legend Carlos Paredes. Sándor is unique because he is on a cultural mission. He has decided to bring classical music to those who otherwise would not be exposed to it. Among the big concert halls he plays in the community halls and schools of tiny villages, because he believes, and demonstrates, that music belongs to everyone. Sandór Mester performed on Sunday 23 March.

dj Marcel Barlag

Marcel Barlag, aka Father Barlag, is a glasses salesman and also a DJ. With his Disco Bicycle Drive Inn show he knows how to get the party started. From his bicycle he spins obscure records and creates a cosy ambience to get your groove on until the early hours. DJ Marcel Barlag performed after the GREED Talkshow on Sunday March 23.

dj Jairzinho

DJ Jairzinho's cultural journalist, music programmer and Afro Latin Jazz DJ. He wrote for media such as De Groene  Amsterdammer and De Volkskrant,  he does programming for Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam-Noord and performs in venues such as Paradiso, Bimhuis, Melkweg, Amsterdam Global Dance Lab. The shared musical culture history between Africa and the Caribbean is the musical compass to Jairzinho momentum. DJ Jairzinho performed during the moves that matter party on Saturday 22 March.

Meral Polat

Singer and actress Meral Polat was born Dersim (Northern Kurdistan), but she lives and breathes Amsterdam. She studied Arts in Amsterdam and is known for acting in Vreemd bloed (2010), Kader (1955) and Alibi (2008). She performed during the ending of the film Night of Silence on wednesday 26 March.
