Q&A with Poet Laureate of the Netherlands Ramsey Nasr, and filmmaker Anne Gyrithe Bonne led by Mirella van Markus.

Ramsey Nasr (1974, Rotterdam) is a poet, author, actor and director and has held the office of Poet Laureate of the Netherlands since 27 January 2009; the appointment is for a four-year term.

Published in November 2008, Homo safaricus is a logbook written by Nasr during an expedition to Tanzania. Nasr was invited by the University of Antwerp to accompany 35 biology students on a trip to Tanzania in July 2008, where they would be conducting fieldwork for the first time. A five-part documentary series was made about the trip for Canvas, a Belgian broadcasting company. Called ‘Wildcard: Tanzania', the series was based on Nasr's logbook.

Another edition of the series was created in autumn 2010, entitled ‘Wildcard: Myanmar'. This time, Nasr travelled to Burma with a camera team and a group of Antwerp-based medical students. The crew was able to film in locations that would normally be under strict protection by the totalitarian regime. The trip was documented in a DVD box and a book, In Buddha's golden belly, which alternates between Nasr's travel log and photos taken by Diego Franssens.
