Zaal 5, Filmhuis Den Haag

After the screening journalist Marnix de Bruyne will speak with Danish filmmaker Camilla Nielsson and prominent Zimbabwean human rights lawyer Abel Chikomo about the situation in Zimbabwe.

Camilla Nielsson studied Anthropology and Media Studies in New York. Since 2000 she works as independent filmmaker, and directed the trilogy Good Morning Afghanistan (2003), Durga (2004), and The Children of Darfur (2005), among others.  For her feature debut Democrats, she followed the two protagonists from MDC and ZANU-PF during the period of three years.

Abel Chikomo is a human rights lawyer and Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum. This is a coalition of twenty-one human rights NGOs in Zimbabwe, and its activities include transitional justice work, human rights research and documentation and public interest litigation. In 2011 Chikomo was charged, stood trial, - and was eventually acquitted in November 2013 - of running an ‘unregistered’ organisation in Zimbabwe.

The Q&A will be led by Dutch journalist Marnix de Bruyne. He works for the monthly Amnesty magazine Wordt Vervolgd. In 2010 De Bruyne wrote Het Land van Soekmekaar, a book about land reform, violence and reconciliation in rural South Africa.
