Beth Murphy

Lilianne Ploumen (chair of the jury) is a Dutch politician for the labour party (PVDA) and former Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. As Minister she launched and initiated SheDecides to maintain important facilities for women worldwide in the field of family planning.  In 2017 SheDecides won the 29th Machiavelli Award because the movements blurred boundaries between governments, NGO’s, funds and individuals. Recently she was awarded the Alleta Jacobs prize for her commitment to the rights of women and girls all over the world.

Beth Murphy is an American filmmaker and author who is director of GroundTruth Films and founder of Principle Pictures. She is director/producer/EP for more than 20 documentaries including 6 features.  With targeted impact campaigns, news reports, podcasts and photography, Murphy raises awareness and promotes action for issues that demand social change. She has led production crews to all corners of the world – often in war-torn or developing countries to focus on human rights and social justice. 

Haytham Chamass

Haytham Chamass is a documentary filmmaker and a film instructor at two universities in Beirut. He is finishing his master’s degree in cinema directing from the Lebanese University. He filmed many documentaries related to human rights and public awareness issues, short films, TV programs and many commercials. He is the director of Karama Beirut Human Rights Film Festival. He is also a founder member of ANHAR, the Arab network of HR associations.

Helen Duffy runs ‘Human Rights in Practice,’ specializing in strategic international human rights litigation and advice. Her cases span a broad range of pressing human rights issues (recently torture, arbitrary detention, counter-terrorism abuses, slavery, equality and judicial independence), across international and regional human rights systems. She is also Professor of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights at the University of Leiden.

Achmed Akkabi

Achmed Akkabi is a Dutch actor and producer with Moroccan roots. His career started early with large roles in popular television shows like Het Huis Anubis and Keyzer & De Boer Advocaten and was empowered thanks to his role in the famous Albert Heijn commercials. Achmed also starred in several films, like Whatever Lola Wants, Alibi, Los, Anubis en het pad der 7 zonden, Sterke verhalen, Rabat, Broeders and De president, in which Akkabi had the leading role.
