The beginning of summer. Lale and her four sisters return home after their last school day in a village in northern Turkey. On their way home the girls innocently play with a few boys from the village. When an interfering neighbour sees this as debauchery, the girls are caught up in a local scandal with unintended consequences.

After their last day in school signalling the start of the summer holidays, five sisters Lale, Nur, Ece, Selma and Sonay decide to go to the beach to play with a few classmates. A meddlesome neighbour believes it is her moral duty to immediately inform the highly conservative grandmother and uncle, who have the task of raising the girls. Interpreting their games as debauchery, they put in every effort to get the children into line.

The sisters’ home slowly turns into a prison; regular schoolwork is replaced by housekeeping tasks, and marriages begin to be arranged. However, the sisters put up quite some resistance. With their long, free-flowing hair and undisciplined appearance, they resemble a flock of mustang horses. Driven by a desire for freedom, the five sisters fight back against the limits imposed on them.
