This film is a portrait of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia's strongest woman and Africa's first elected female president. After fourteen years of civil war she faces the near impossible task of restoring and maintaining peace in the country. The challenges are rife: a foreign debt of 3.7 million dollars, corruption through all governmental levels, and political forces which attempt to undermine her efforts. Daniel Junge and Siatta Scott Johnson follow 'Old Ma' closely throughout her first year in office, in which she appoints women in key positions in the government, single handedly calms demonstrating ex-soliders, personally negotiates with the multinational company Firestone, and pays a visit to President Bush.
