DIY Country: Q&A with Fleur de Weerd

DIY Country

Language: Engels

With Fleur de Weerd, author of the book Het land dat maar niet wil lukken, we speak about the pro-Russia riots that took place in 2014 in Donetsk and the rest of East Ukraine.

Fleur de Weerd traveled through Ukraine and spoke with several remarkable characters of Ukrain: a mineworker in Novodonetsk, a boss of a wedding bureau in Odessa, a gay priest in Donetsk, a smuggler and outcast writer in Oezjhorod, an orthodox-Jewish tourist, an ultranationalist with a passion for Easter eggs in Lviv and many others. She shows that Ukraine is a country with complex and contrary identities, a country with a sad and extremely complicated history, that struggles to keep its head up, but doesn’t give up.
