Naila and the Uprising: O&A with activist Naila Ayesh and producer Jen Marlowe

Naila and the Uprising

Language: Engels

Journalist Alwin Helmink talks with activist Naila Ayesh and producer Jen Marlowe about non-violent resistance in Palestine.

Alwin Helmink, journalist and storyteller (Spijkers met Koppen and BNN-VARA) speaks with activist Naila Ayesh and producer Jen Marlowe about the making this documentary and the involvement of women in non-violent resistance in Palestine.

Activist and feminist Naila Ayesh was imprisoned twice for her resistance to the Israeli rule of the occupied Palestinian territories. During the intifada, Naila Ayesh becomes one of the leading figures in an underground women’s network which leads the resistance and – for all intents and purposes – keeps Palestinian society running. However, when after the Oslo accords of 1993 the Palestinian Authority was set up, women were forced to take a back seat again. That’s why Ayesh continues to work to advance Palestinian women’s leadership, empowerment and participation. She is happy that her story is now being told.
