Gloria Wekker chooses Daughters of the Dust

In 2016, Emeritus Professor of Gender and Ethnicity Gloria Wekker wrote the much-discussed and urgent book White Innocence: Paradoxes of Colonialism and Race. In this book Gloria Wekker explores a central paradox in Dutch culture: the passion and aggression that race evokes, while at the same time denying the existence of race and racism in all its keys.

Gloria Wekker is connected to the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University. She is also director of GEM, Expertise Center for Gender, Ethnicity and Multiculturalism in higher education.

Gloria Wekker chooses Daughters of the Dust, the first major cinema release of a black female filmmaker.
