CHECK IT in Kriterion

CHECK IT in Kriterion

May 05, 2018

Check It will be screened in Kriterion on Saturday 5 May at 19:30. Closely located to the White House lies a notorious red-light district, where black homosexual prostitutes pick up their customers. A few of them belong to Check it, a gang born out of despair when Washington DC was confronted with growing violence against the LGBT-community. To protect each other, the black homo- and transsexuals decided to join their strength.

They carry Louis Vuitton bags, but also knives, brass knuckles and pepper spray. As vulnerable gay and transgender youth, they’ve been shot, stabbed, and raped. Once victims, they’ve now turned the tables, beating their assaulters. Filmmakers Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer won the trust of some flamboyant gangmembers, who shared their history in front of the camera.

The screening of Check It is part of the 4/5 May program of Kriterion and is a colaboration with TranScreen, the Amsterdam Trans*gender filmfestival.
