Theatrical release: Wiren

December 12, 2019

Wiren is deaf. His ambitions take him from the Surinamese countryside to the capital Paramaribo, where he ends up at the Kennedy boarding school. When his application to the university is rejected years later, he realizes that deaf people do not enjoy the same rights and opportunities as hearing people.

He decides to seek justice by prosecuting the government to force it to abide by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Thanks to the attention given to this film, Wiren Meghoe, whose life the film is based on, was able to pursue his dream and was admitted to the Kentalis College in Groningen in October 2019 for secondary special education.
