Joana is a Brazilian teenager who has spent much of her childhood with her exiled mother in Paris. After her return to Brazil, Joana starts looking for the truth about her father, a political activist who disappeared under Brazil’s military dictatorship. Unremember is a beautifully shot film, brimming with life and music.

Youth Unstoppable

Frustrated by the inaction of decision-makers, young people from all corners of the world join forces for real progress against climate change. Teenage Canadian filmmaker Slater has documented their rise from the beginning. As Slater and her friends grow personally, so does their influence on the global climate debate.

The Tower

The Tower is a touching and beautiful puppet animation about eleven-year-old Palestinian girl Wardi, who has been living in a refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon, together with her family ever since she was born. When her beloved granddad apparently loses hope of ever returning to his home in Galilee, she tries to restore hope in the camp.

Novaya Gazeta is one of the last independent newspapers in Russia, and that comes with its own consequences for the newsroom. Journalists receive threats, their phones are tapped, and they are obstructed at every turn. For eighteen months, filmmaker Askold Kurov follows the daily routine at the newsroom. Ali Feruz, who is a guest at the festival, works for the Novaya Gazeta.

Jaha's Promise

Inspiring story of a brave woman’s fight to end female genital mutilation (FGM) in Gambia. When she was one week old, Jaha Dukureh’s clitoris was cut off. From the US, where she was forced to move at 15 to marry, she starts campaigning against FGM. But to really make a difference, she has to go back home.

Shorts that Matter

Together with the Go Short Festival we selected a short film programme. You'll see the films The Christmas Gift by Bogdan Muresanu, Down There by Zhengfan Yang, Heavy Pen by Pamela Kalkman and Bowie Verschuuren, Prisoner of Societyby Rati Tsiteladze and Untravel by Ana Nedeljković and Nikola Majdak Jr.
